Wright's Market Brings the Farm to You
Farm fresh produce, homemade baked goods, local honey, homemade ice cream, curated gifts, garden decor, potted flowers & more ... Come explore the bounty and say hi to Gus, Dapple and our goats!
Through five generations, over more than 60 years, the Wright family of Wicomico County, Md., has provided the local community, as well as vacationers, superior agricultural products. What started as a part-time learning process for Charles M. Wright, Jr., has now evolved into a well-managed farming business and a 13,000 sq. ft. retail market, providing the highest quality vegetables and fruits, plus seasonal and gift items.
Gone are the days of selling vegetables from the back of the pickup… the Wrights have grown tremendously through family tradition and values, determination and commitment to quality. They are now a familiar landmark along Route 50 in Mardela Springs, Md. ... look for the big windmill! Charles M. Wright, III helped grow the business, bringing in sons, Charles IV and Tim. Charles IV now manages the daily activities of the farm. He and his wife, Michelle, took the family's vision for a large-scale retail farm market, guided it into reality, and have recently welcomed their son, Charles V, into management of the farm.
The current market, which opened in October, 2001, has allowed the Wrights to expand from delicious fruits and vegetables, into home and garden items, outdoor Amish-made furniture, giftware, an in-store bakery and an on-site greenhouse. Through their steady growth one thing has not changed, - the family’s commitment to their customers. Friendly Eastern Shore hospitality abounds every time you enter the market or enjoy the activities available on the farm. The Wrights enjoy seeing the many loyal customers return year after year, and they love making the new friends who come through each season.
In addition to their vision for growth, the Wrights believe in preserving agriculture through education and awareness. Charles IV is active with the boards of the Wicomico County Farm Bureau and Maryland-Delaware Watermelon Association. He enjoys providing enrichment programs for local young farmers. He also actively follows ag-land preservation and farm legislation within the state government and is on the Horizon Farm Credit Board. The family also works with the Maryland Food Bank to help with food donations.
The Wrights firmly believe in the future of agriculture, especially on Delmarva. Michelle spent many years as Secretary/Treasurer of the Mar-Del Watermelon Association and continues to be involved in many civic and charitable activities. The Wrights have always embraced the opportunity to have local children and families tour their farm, feed the goats and participate in activities through school or daycare field trips, or during a weekend stop when traveling.
In the fall, the "Fun Zone" has become a favorite destination for families and school children wanting to experience the best of autumn. Over 2,000 children and teachers participate in field trips to Wright's Market each season! From educational corn and pumpkin mazes, to hayrides and special on-the-farm crafts, the Wrights provide the opportunity to have fun while learning about life on the farm and the importance of agriculture. After all, as Charles IV explains while pointing to his son, Charles V, who also works on the family market, “Don’t forget… that’s our future. Yours and mine.”
The Wright family welcomes you to their farm and market, and looks forward to serving you for generations, to come. Check out Charles' feature video with the MD Dept. of Ag.
